How to Turn Your Laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot with Windows 10?

By Deepak Saxena February 17, 2017 How To, Windows

You may have often realized the need of using your laptop as Wi-Fi hotspot. When we do not have a Wi-Fi Router we often connect our laptops through Ethernet to internet. But what if you want to connect your mobile devices using laptop as a hotspot. Laptops have got both Ethernet and Wi-Fi so it can be easily used for this purpose.

However, till Windows 8 there was no inbuilt feature to do so. Thankfully, Windows 10 has added a Wi-Fi hot spot feature in in their anniversary update that allows you to share your internet with other devices.

First of all, you need to find out if your Windows 10 laptop has been updated to anniversary addition. To do this open the Start Menu, select Settings>System, scroll down on left hand column until you find About. Click on this and in the main pane look down in the middle you will find Version number. Window 10 Anniversary is 1607, so if you have that (or higher) then you’re good to go.

Now you can proceed further to activate hotspot on your Windows 10 Laptop.

1. Go to the Start Menu and select Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot.

2. In the main Window there will be a drop-down menu Share my Internet connection from which will display WiFi if you’re using a laptop, from here you can also choose Ethernet.

3. You can change the Network name and Network Password by clicking on Edit button

4. Once you are done with setting up desired network name and password you can turn on the button given under the Share my Internet connection with other devices.

That’s is all Now your devices will find network name in available Wi-Fi connections and you will be able to connect to internet after entering the password.
