Apple ID is the account we use for everything we do with Apple, like shopping on iTunes Store, signing in to iCloud, buying an app, and more. To reset our password, we need to know the email address for our Apple ID. If we’re not sure which email address it is or it has totally slipped from your head, then there are a few ways we can find our Apple ID.
How to Recover Apple ID?
Before recovering the password, it is important that we first retrieve our Apple ID. Apple ID is the account you use to sign in to all Apple services. If we forgot our Apple ID or aren’t sure that we have one, here are a few ways to find it:
1. Try a different email address.
2. In most cases, our Apple ID is our email address. First, try signing in with all prior email addresses that we might have used as an Apple ID.
3. Use Apple ID account page (https://appleid.apple.com/). Go to Apple ID account page and click on Forgot Apple ID or password.
4. When we’re asked to enter our Apple ID, click Forgot Apple ID.
5. Enter first name, last name, and email address. If we enter the wrong email address, we can try again with a different one.
If you’re already signed in with your Apple ID
We may already be signed in on one of our Apple devices. View the Apple ID that we’re using for these services:
From iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
a. Tap Settings > App & iTunes Store
b. Tap Settings > iCloud
c. Tap Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
d. Tap Settings > FaceTime
e. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
From Mac or PC:
a. Select Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud
b. Open Mail, then select Mail > Preferences > Accounts
c. Open Calendar, then select Calendar > Preferences > Accounts
d. Open FaceTime, then select FaceTime > Preferences > Settings
e. Open Messages, then select Messages > Preferences > Accounts
Check iTunes for previous purchases: –
If we previously bought something in the iTunes Store, we can check which account was used to purchase it. If the Apple ID has changed since, then the name in File Info won’t work.
a. Open iTunes.
b. Click one of the purchases. We can find our purchases under My Music or Playlists.
c. Choose File > Get Info.
d. Click the File tab.
e. The ‘purchased by’ will show our Apple ID in parenthesis that was used to buy the item.
If we find our Apple ID, but still don’t remember our password, then follow the below steps to reset password.
Reset Password: –
We can reset our password when we go to our Apple ID account page(https://appleid.apple.com/) and click Forgot Apple ID or password. Enter the Apple ID, then click Next.
After we enter our Apple ID, there are a few ways we can change our password:
1. Answer the security questions
If we know the answers to our security questions, select “Answer security questions” and follow the steps to reset the password.
2. Use email authentication
If we select “Get an email,” we’ll get an email to our primary or rescue email address that we can use to reset our password.
3. If we use two-step verification
If we set up two-step verification, we can use it to change our password. we just need a recovery key and a trusted device. Follow these steps:
a. Enter your Recovery Key.
b. Choose a trusted device. We’ll get a verification code.
c. Enter the verification code.
d. Set a new password and select Reset Password.
NOTE: If we permanently lost our recovery key or access to our trusted device, we can’t change our password.
4. If we use two-factor authentication
If we have two-factor authentication, we can reset or change our password from our trusted iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when we follow these steps:
a. Go to Settings > iCloud.
b. Tap our name.
c. Tap Password & Security.
d. Tap Change Password.
e. Enter a new password.
These steps will work only from a trusted device with a device passcode enabled. If we don’t have access to a trusted device, we can reset our password when we follow these steps:
a. Go to iforgot.apple.com and enter the Apple ID.
b. Enter the trusted phone number and click Continue.
c. Enter the verification code that we will receive on the trusted phone number.
d. Provide any additional account information requested.
e. Choose the new password.

If we can’t sign in, reset our password, or receive verification codes, we can request account recovery to regain access to our account. Account recovery will take a few days, depending on what account information we can give.
