How to Add Safe Mode to Boot Menu in Windows 10 or 8.1?

Now accessing safe mode option quickly can be done very easily by adding safe mode to boot menu. So whenever you need to start your PC on safe mode, select that option from the boot menu quickly. This can be done very easily by following the steps as illustrated below on our page. These steps are only applicable for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1. As safe mode can be entered in Windows 7 and previous versions by simply pressing the F8 key as soon as you power on your computer.

Steps to add Safe Mode in Windows 10 or 8.1 Boot Menu

1. Open Start menu and type CMD in search box to open Command Prompt or you can simultaneously press Ctrl + Shift + Enter keys.

2. Now, right-click on Command Prompt and then click “Run as administrator” option.

3. On the Command Prompt Window, type the following extension as given below and then hit Enter to continue.

bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Safe Mode”

4. Now, close the Command Prompt, either click on Close button or type Exit in the Command Prompt Window.

5. Then, press Windows key + R simultaneously to open the Run Window.

6. In the box, type msconfig and then either press “OK” or hit “Enter”.

7. The System Configuration Window appears on your screen, click on “Boot” tab and select “Safe mode”. Now, see downwards whether the safe boot option is checked or not. If not, then check the box and also set timeout to 3 seconds. Hit “OK” and then “Apply” to save the changes.

8. A pop-up appears says that “You need to restart your computer to apply these changes”. But, before doing so close all the files and folders and uncheck “Don’t show the message again” box.

Steps to Remove the Added Safe Mode from Boot Menu

  1. Open Run Window by simultaneously pressing Windows + R keys and type msconfig in the box. Hit “Enter”.
  2. From the System Configuration Window, click on “Boot” tab, scroll down and select “Safe mode” option.
  3. Now, click on “Delete” option to remove the added safe mode from Boot Menu.

Remember – Don’t press Delete button without selecting Safe mode option from the list. As, if you didn’t select it then it will delete Windows 10 or 8.1 entries which will make your system unbootable.
