By Deepak Saxena November 14, 2016 How To, Mac

If you are going on a long holiday, then there is a good news for you. Now you do not need to check your email inbox and manually acknowledge every email. You can set an auto-response for your emails and enjoy your holidays better.

If you’re unfamiliar with how to set auto-response for emails, here’s how you can do it on Mac.

Step 1:- Launch Mail and go to Preferences > Rules.

Step 2:- Click “Add Rule” and give it a pertinent description, such as “Out of Office Auto Reply.” Then set the condition to apply to “Every Message” (or accordingly) using the drop-down menu and choose to perform the “Reply to Message” action from the second drop-down selection.

Step 3:- Next, click “Reply message text…” to bring up the action’s text input window. The text we enter here will be sent in reply to anyone who emails us while we’re gone.

Step 4:- Finally, click OK to finish creating the rule.

Step 5:- IMPORTANT: Mail will now ask “if you’d like to apply the rule to existing messages.” Choose ‘Don’t Apply’. This will ensure that automatic responses will be sent to new messages only. Alternatively, choosing “Apply” will send the automatic reply in response to every existing email in your inbox.

Step 6:- Once the rule is created, it will be active by default. We can deactivate it by unchecking its box in Mail > Preferences > Rules. Once active, everyone who sends an email to our account will receive the automatic reply until we deactivate the rule upon our return.

Step 7: – If we have more than one email account and only want our automatic reply to be sent to emails received at certain accounts, we can add additional conditions to the Mail Rules. We could also configure the Rule’s conditions to send a response to specific individuals with specific subjects, or even broader filters such as whether or not the sender is in our contacts list.
