If you’re a smartphone user, then it is imperative that you use a reliable data connection to get the best out of it. Nevertheless, using so many apps can also lead your android smartphone to consume a lot of data. This can become a problem especially if your data plan isn’t unlimited. So for those who don’t want to spend loads of money on unlimited Data plans, here’s how you can restrict data in android.

  • Set Monthly Data Usage

To prevent unusual data consumption, you can easily set the limit to your monthly data usage so you never exceed your data limit. Enabling this will automatically notify you when data usage reaches the specified limit. Then, you can turn off the data

To do so, all you have to do is open settings, select data usage option and set cellular data limit for your phone. Moreover, over there you can see your Wi-Fi Usage as well, by tapping on the three-dot icon as given in the upper right corner.

  • Update Apps over Wi-Fi Only

Always remember to set ‘auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only’ as it will keep your phone’s data consumption under check. To enable this function, just open Google Play Store > Tap Hamburger icon as given on the top-left corner > scroll down and click on settings > General Settings > Click on Auto-update apps > Select Auto-update Apps over Wi-Fi only.

  • Restrict Background Data

Similarly, you can also restrict background data so when your mobile screen is off, the apps will not consume the data. To activate it, scroll down the notification panel and the settings icon is there on the top-right corner just click on it and then click on Data Usage option. Tap on the three-dot icon and you will see Restrict Background Data option. Simply click on it and click ok, when the pop-up appears.

  • Tweak Popular Apps

This is also an amazing way to save data usage caused by the various social media apps. All you need to do is just make changes in the settings; such as disabling auto-download of files and videos, remove ads and automatic updates. Use Wi-Fi for downloading updates.

Data usage has become quite a menace for the average user as they might not be familiar with the various settings in their phone or device. We hope the above steps will help you reduce your phone’s data use considerably.
